More on the Dark Corners of CyberExtortion

Symantec reported last month that the number of attacks by bot computers was dramatically up in the first six months of this year. A couple of recent stories about that dark side of the internet, which many victims try to keep hidden, were published recently. The Taipei Times ran a story about a cyber extortionist demanding a $17 million payment to keep him from divulging corporate secrets. See Cyber stalkers lurk in the Web’s darker corners.

Wired News has a story about a satellite TV mogul who allegedly ordered distributed denial of service attacks against a competitor. The hacker who carried out the attacks pled guilty, and the man who allegedly ordered them skipped out on bail under a federal indictment. See Hackers Admit to Wave of Attacks.
